| Kaprun is part of the Europa Sports Region a world class ski location with excellent après ski and friendly bars and restaurants.
The region with its 130 km of piste which includes three ski areas all linked by a ski bus which is free with a ski pass.
Firstly the Maiskogel 780m - 1700m ski area is situated in the centre of the village. This is a great area for families and intermediates.
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier 1950m - 3029m has guaranteed snow from October - June for year round skiing and has a wider range of piste from gentle sloping blue runs to more challenging mogul runs, off piste and powder for the advanced skier. There are three snowboard parks for all abilities. This area is reached by a high speed gondola system.
Zell am See is a short bus ride away with beautiful tree lined runs and breathtaking scenery. Zell am See's 80 km of trails are largely located on the Schmittenhohe Mountain behind the town. The easier blue runs are at the top of the mountain. Intermediates will enjoy Zell am See's skiing with more than 50km of red and blue runs including a 6.5 km trail, the Schutt, descending the full 1200 metre back down to the resort. Advanced skiers have several long medium steep black runs descending through the forest.
Cross country skiers have up to 200 km of trails around the valley including 10km track on the frozen lake at Zell and illuminated tracks in Kaprun.
There is a 2 km long toboggan run in Kaprun.
All 3 areas are connected by a bus service which runs every 20 minutes in the winter season. |
